Oxford United: Treble Winners

Sounds good, eh?

This isn't a full article, so to speak, but it seems only right to highlight the tremendous achievements of Oxford United Ladies, who, as we've discussed before, have just had a quite incredible season.

The club was only formed in 2008, but they won promotion in their first season and have been competing for the last three seasons in the Southern Region Premier Division (tier 5). This season they have swept all before them to win the league at a canter. In fact, that's an understatement –  they've actually torn that league a new one. They have finished their league season with 19 wins out of 19 (they will be awarded the points for their lone outstanding match after opponents Woodley United cancelled), finishing the season with a goal difference of +89. With such a fantastic record this season, the higher level will hold little to fear for next season.

They've also been successful in the cups, reaching the third round of the Women's FA Cup, beating higher-placed sides before eventually bowing out to Manchester City (their only defeat of the season in any competition). They did even better in the Southern Region League Cup, beating Shanklin in the final at Aldershot's Recreation Ground, the reserves also winning the Jubilee Cup on the same day. (And there's an interesting interview from Women's Football TV with two of the victorious players here)

At County level there was further success, winning the Oxfordshire Women's Senior Cup for the second year in a row with a convincing 5-0 victory over Launton, capping off a fantastic season for all concerned.
