What the Stats Say...Morecambe

United return to action after what feels like an eternity, having had spent the previous weekend watching other teams play in the second round of the FA Cup. Morecambe is the destination this weekend, a place where we have fared well on our few visits. Matt Peck mulls over previous encounters, examines each side's poor recent form and also compares disciplinary records.

OTHER STATS

Last season saw a great away performance by Oxford, helped by a poor home showing. A brace from Hall sandwiching a McLaren free kick was enough to see the Yellows go back with 3 points. Morecambe’s bad afternoon was compounded by a second half penalty kick saved by Ryan Clarke.

History tells us that Oxford have the better chance of grabbing the 3 points having beaten the Shrimps 0-3 on two occasions, once at the Globe Arena last season, the other at their old ground, Christie Park in the 2006/07 season.

In the league, Home or Away, Oxford United have never even conceded a goal against Morecambe.

The two teams meet at the Globe Arena this season, both horribly out of form. Neither side have won in the last 3, and will be desperate to put that right.

Oxford had a dreadful November in the league. Scoring just 3 goals, conceding 9 and failing to pick up a single point. Morecambe have fared little better. Collecting just one point throughout the whole month.

Oxford have never lost from a winning position this season. They have drawn 4 times after going in front at some point, thereby losing 8 points. Morecambe on the other hand have lost 15 points from winning positions, drawing 3 and losing 3, the worst in the league.

Oxford United have the worst disciplinary record in League Two this season and the third worst record in the entire Football League. Committing 242 fouls, collecting 36 yellows, 3 reds and giving away 3 penalties. Only Stevenage and Yeovil can beat that tally. Morecambe on the other hand have committed just 161 fouls, being given 24 yellows and 1 red card.
