What the Stats Say...Plymouth

Next up for Oxford are Plymouth Argyle, bottom of the entire Football League, and Matt Peck is on hand to examine the stats. Crisis club Plymouth have not had an easy start to life in League Two and currently find themselves 5 points from safety, however they have seen an upturn in form of late and will be eager to winning ways, following defeat to 'the A420s' at the weekend.

OTHER STATS

Plymouth Argyle last visited Oxford in 2001, and were the first team to play out a draw with Oxford United in a competitive game at the Kassam Stadium. The game this Tuesday is only the second game played between the clubs at the Kassam, coming over a decade after the first.

Plymouth’s only win at Oxford came in November 1988, when they edged Oxford 0-1.

Plymouth have only won one away game this season, incidentally their most recent away game. And have only won 5 away games this calendar year.

Plymouth may be last in the league, but their form is similar to Oxford, who are 17 places higher. They have secured the same number of points (4) in the last 3 games, as they did in the 11 before that.

Oxford’s unbeaten run finally came to an end in Gillingham, losing 1-0 in a typically frustrating game. The reason can be explained by the fact that Oxford have the worst attack record in the top 14. Oxford will be hoping this can be sorted against Plymouth, who have conceded 26 goals this season already.

Carl Fletcher, Plymouth caretaker manager, has felt success at Oxford twice as a player at AFC Bournemouth. Once in a cup and once in the league, when a young lad called Jermaine Defoe scored twice to beat Oxford on Boxing Day 2000.
